Legal Services

Liam O’Donnell & Co. are widely viewed as leading Criminal Defence Lawyers.  Our company is based in Glasgow but provides representation in criminal courts throughout Scotland.

We are very proud to announce that our dedication and commitment to our clients has recently been recognised when we were awarded the prestigious title of Criminal Law Firm of the Year 2009 by The Firm magazine.  We were also delighted to be nominated as the Advocates Choice at the Firm Magazine Awards by the Faculty of Advocates. We regularly instruct Counsel in cases and were delighted to see our standards of preparation recognised by this nomination.

The firm has developed a formidable reputation in defending the prosecution of serious crime.  We have been instructed in many murder cases, drugs cases (including the largest importation case in Scottish history), Customs and Excise prosecutions, copyright prosecutions, attempted murder, serious assault and firearms etc.  Simply put we deal with all types of criminal court work in Glasgow and throughout Scotland.

In December 2009 we were delighted to become the first Scottish firm of solicitors to represent a Scottish accused in the new Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.  Steven Allison’s appeal had been refused in the Scottish Courts.

For more information about this case and the ongoing appeal to the Supreme Court please click here.

We deal with large numbers of summary criminal prosecutions in courts throughout Scotland including road traffic cases, breach of the peace, assault, shoplifting etc.  Many of these cases are tried either at the District Court or the Sheriff Court where we regularly practice.

The firm also practice regularly as defence solicitors in Health and Safety prosecutions and also represent various parties in Fatal Accident Inquiries.

The firm is also acknowledged as a leading provider of legal services in the field of Proceeds of Crime.  We work with a team of Forensic Accountants and Counsel skilled in this new and complex area of the law.  We deal with both civil recovery, where there has been no prosecution and confiscation proceedings following conviction.  We are very well versed in the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and all subsequent legislation in this ever changing field.

We also have a substantial practice involving criminal appeals.  Successful appeals undertaken by the firm include the quashing of the 8 year sentence and conviction of a former solicitor.  We did not provide representation at the original trial but successful conducted the appeal securing his acquittal.

We were also instructed in the well publicised appeal of William Mills who had a 9 year conviction and sentence for armed robbery overturned following our introduction at the appeal stage.

We carry out both legal aid work and private work for those who are not eligible for legal aid.

We are regulated and adhere to the Codes of Conduct of The Law Society of Scotland.

If you are not sure if we will take on your case or can help with your case simply call and check.  We will be happy to provide advice and try to help you.  We confirm that the first interview is free.
